Scholarship Recipients Announced! Print E-mail
Tuesday, 09 June 2009 07:33

The recipients of the 2009 MARC scholarship are Aubrey Sewell, KE5EYZ, and Covan Banner, KE5EZB.  The announcement was made at last night's meeting by Bill Bentley, N5POB, on behalf of the selection committee, i.e. the club directors.

Since the club received two well qualified applicants and there were several years in which the club did not award a scholarship, the committee decided to award two $500 scholarships this year.

Covan is a 2009 graduate of Midland High and will be attending West Texas A&M studying Music.  Aubrey is a 2008 graduate of Greenwood High and has just completed his freshman year at Texas A&M studying Aerospace Engineering.

CONGRATULATIONS TO COVAN AND AUBREY!

Gail WTC Repeater is OFFICIAL! Print E-mail
Wednesday, 27 May 2009 11:21

Jim, KK5MV, has announced the Gail West Texas Repeater has received official frequency coordination.  The repeater is on 443.750+ MHz with a 162.2 Hz tone.  It is linked into the Connection full time.

There is also an APRS Digipeater (144.390, KK5MV-5) at this location. These stations are intended to fill the gap for SKYWARN spotters in the Northeast portion of the Midland Forecast Office area (Gail, Snyder).

The West Texas Connection map has been updated to reflect this new repeater in the system.

Thanks Jim!

What Happened at the Club Meeting? Print E-mail
Monday, 27 April 2009 20:54

At tonight's club meeting it was voted to purchase an Optoma EP7155 projector with a screen and ceiling mount.  W5AJ reported we had no applicants for the MARC scholarship.  It was voted to extend the deadline to May 29 and encourage club member relatives and college students to apply.  It was agreed we would have a Field Day meeting in conjunction with the Saturday coffee & donut meeting on May 2 at 9:30 am.  KD5VOU is confirming Beal Park will be available for FD.

The program was a presentation by N5NA on building and operating the club's new Elecraft K3 transceiver.

Order Your Field Day Shirts & Pins NOW! Print E-mail
Sunday, 22 March 2009 16:10

Field Day ShirtWe are now taking orders for Field Day tee shirts and pins.  It seems like a long time until Field Day but it will be here before you know it!  Be sure to mark June 27th and 28th on your calendard NOW!

This year the order will be placed two weeks earlier than last year.  Last year the order was placed six weeks before Field Day and the ARRL was already sold out of some sizes of shirts.  So, this year it's planned to place the order on April 28, the day after the 2nd meeting in April.

You can order three different ways.  Catch N5NA at a club meeting or Saturday coffee meeting, send a check with a note of what you want to MARC, P.O. Box 4401, Midland, TX  79704, or order online.  The tee shirts are $13.00 and the pins are $5.00.  However, if you order online the tee shirts are $13.50 and the pins are $5.40.  This is so the club doesn't lose money with the PayPal fee.  All orders must be paid in advance.

The shirts look sharp this year.  You don't want to be the only one at Field Day without a cool looking tee shirt so get your order in early!
