It seems nothing has changed a great deal about the weather, it is still hot and dry. July wasn't one of our most active months as far as club activities go. The Cactus Crude 150 mile bicycle tour on the 15th was one event that several of the members assisted in providing communications. From comments heard, it was well attended and no major mishaps occurred, so it was successful. I attended a family reunion at Ruidoso, New Mexico, the weekend that Mike had the Tailgate Party, so I missed that one. I heard a couple of people on the air that attended and said they enjoyed it. I did get to attend the hamfest at Roswell, New Mexico, Aug 5th, last Saturday. They had a good turn out for the first time. I guessed that there were 150 to 200 people there at one time or the other. They will be able to build it into a nice hamfest. They gave away a Ten-Tec Pegasus computer HF transceiver for a grand prize . A lady with a Tech license won it and she was a very happy lady indeed. I got to see and visit with several of the hams from the Midland area. Several of us had lunch at a Mexican restaurant and it was very good food and a lot of it. The Odessa Club is busy getting ready for their hamfest coming up in November, and I am looking forward to attending it. We have found out that our site will be available for the 2001 St. Patrick Hamfest at the County Exhibit Building. There was some talk that it would be torn down to build a new one. Had that occurred, we would have been "scrambling" to find a alternate site. I won't be able to attend the club meeting on Monday the 14th. I will be in Lubbock with my son, Mikal. He is scheduled for surgery
