staffed entirely by Midland Club Members. Although a formal memorandum of understanding does not exist between the Sheriff's Office and the Midland
ARC, a "handshake agreement" does. Plans include issuing Departmental ID cards to qualified club members/experienced operators that would allow them access to the MOC and/or secured areas during future emergencies.
The Midland County Sheriff's Office recognizes the need for qualified Amateur Radio Operators, based in part on experiences with a tornado in Midland County last spring.

Our New President

   --Dewey Baucum,, WB5CDD, Editor

Pete Stull, WB7AMP, our president-elect, became interested in Ham radio in the 7th grade. He had a science teacher, W5FGU, that instilled the desire in him to learn about Ham radio. Pete
=s teacher gave his class an assignment to built a three-element bamboo antenna  for 15 meters which was covered with aluminum foil. His teacher invited Pete to his house. Pete was introduced to the Globe Scout radio. He was privileged to talk to a man in Alaska on the Globe Scout. This experience,  Pete said, "It just blew his mind!" (Now we have found out the truth about Pete=s mind.) Pete said, "since that time, I have not lost my interest in Ham radio." Pete has built a crystal radio along with other types.
He was married at a very early age in 1958. In 1964, Pete earned a Novice License. Johnny Bell., from Odessa gave him the examination for the Novice License. His call sign was WN5LG.
The Novice License was good for one year. Pete said that he did not upgrade during that one year, so he lost his Novice License. In 1965, He earned a Technician
=s license. His call sign was WA5TAP. Pete
